Services: Dunkin’ is primarily a coffee shop (hence the decision for the name change in 2019) that also sells an assortment of baked goods, including its famous doughnuts, bagels, and muffins. It also has a few breakfast options on the menu.

Company History: The first Dunkin’ store was opened under a different name in Quincy, Massachusetts, in 1948. William Rosenberg, who was the founder of the company, had the name changed to Dunkin’ Donuts in 1950. 

After operating for just over a decade, the company had opened stores in around a hundred locations.

Then, the restaurant chain was acquired by the owner of Baskin-Robbins, the international ice-cream and cake-speciality shop, in 1990. Not long afterwards, Dunkin’ Donuts bought out two of its main competitors: Mister Donut and Dawn Donuts.

By 1998, the company had expanded to around 2,500 locations, with restaurants in several countries worldwide.

Revenue Generated: According to the company’s financial reports released in February 2020, Dunkin’ Brands worldwide generated around $1.37 billion in 2019. 

Number of Stores Nationwide: Today, Dunkin’ has opened restaurants in approximately 12,900 locations in 42 countries, making it one of the largest fast-food restaurant chains in the world.

Expansion Plans/Forecasts: In 2018, the company had established over 9,100 restaurants in the U.S. It aimed to increase this number by building 1,000 new stores in 2020. 

Dunkin’ has also been working on developing its own digital catering and delivery platform since 2019.
